Some things are worth the wait and Alexandra and Nicholas’s October Whalehead wedding was definitely one. Postponed due to Covid, Alexandra and Nicholas spent the extra year of wedding planning focusing on their family and having a baby – the sweetest little addition to the wedding we could have imagined! We went through so much during the planning journey: making the decision to postpone the wedding wasn’t easy but Kerri remembers Alexandra and Nicholas’s down to earth way of handling everything. She recalls a particularly memorable zoom when they made the final decision. At the end of the day, having their loved ones celebrate with them was the whole point of the celebration, so waiting a year just made sense. And we made the call early enough to be able to book 99% of the original vendors on the new date (so sorry, Daniel and Kate!!!).
The wedding was an English garden party created by Renee Landry Events with gorgeous florals with white, natural greenery, lilac and lavender. The elevated linens from BB&J La Tavola provided the finishing touch to the table settings. The clear top tent from Ocean Atlantic Event Rentals provided the perfect setting, as did the cocktail set up by Renee Landry and Stage Right Lighting on the grounds of Whalehead. The tent lighting (Stage Right) set the tone and brought on the party atmosphere as the sun set and the band began to get going in earnest. No one realized that there was a tornado warning just as cocktail hour was finishing up and guests were headed into the tent for dinner (talk about good timing). We had a rockstar group of vendors who were able to quickly secure the outside while dinner started; the guests had no idea what was happening behind the scenes. That’s wedding planning on the Outer Banks for you! Alexandra grew up on the Outer Banks and Nicholas grew up in California so they took the opportunity to design a menu that brought together both of their backgrounds. And the desserts from Patty Bakes and Surfin Spoon – oh my! From the amazing cake and cupcakes to the ice cream sandwiches, there was something for everyone! We loved helping design this event with all of the talented vendors who created the perfect day for guests from all over the world.
